Chance is a young male mixed-breed dog waiting for a home through the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland in Westbrook.

His current listing places him at about one year old and in the medium-size mixed-breed category.

For someone considering dog adoption, meeting an individual dog matters more than guessing from a photograph or a breed label.

Ask the adoption team about Chance’s daily routine, training needs and the kind of household that would suit him.

His compatibility with children, cats and other animals should be discussed directly with staff.

ARLGP handles adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis at its shelter, 217 Landing Road.

Published adoption hours are 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday; adoptions are closed Wednesdays.

Resident dogs must meet adoptable dogs older than six months.

Call 207-854-9771 before making a special trip to confirm that Chance is still available and learn what to bring.

A thoughtful introduction is the first step toward a home that works for everyone.
